The Eastern Mediterranean Yacht Rally (EMYR) was inaugurated in 1990 by a small fleet of 17 boats sailing from Istanbul to Girne (Northern Cyprus; in Greek, Kyrenia) via the Turkish coast. In 1995, the rally route was extended to Syria, Lebanon and Egypt and, subsequently to Israel. In 2008, a fleet deliberately limited to 80 yachts representing 19 countries completed the rally.

The burgee of EMYR is white with two overlapping red triangles placed along the hoist, "E.M.Y.R." in blue Futura letters and "since 1990" in smaller red Futura letters in the white part.
The burgee can be seen, as presented by the Lebanese members of EMYR, on a photo available on the EMYR website. It can also be seen, as hoisted on the Troll, on photos of EMYR 2008 made by Gérard Bachy.
